Barco ships 500th air traffic control display to FAA

In support of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Terminal Main Display Monitor (MDM) Replacement program, Barco is shipping more than 2,000 ISIS LCD monitors to FAA radar facilities across the United States. This month, Barco celebrates shipment of the 500th display to the FAA, meeting the agency’s aggressive timeframe for deployment.

Pictured at left: Monitor comparison - The new Barco ISIS LCD Main Display Monitor (right), will replace all Sony 2K monitors (left), at all Standard Terminal Automation Replacement Systems (STARS) facilities.

The monitor replacement by FAA is just one of  the agency's nationwide programs to provide the latest tools, training and technology for its air traffic controllers and technicians to ensure the safety of the national air transportation system. The ISIS 2Kx2K is the world’s leading square display for use as a direct replacement for Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)s in air traffic control (ATC) consoles.  CRTs were the primary technology for ATC monitors for FAA. Its reliable design and advanced ergonomic capabilities enable operators to display high-quality, high-resolutions images 24/7/365. Barco signed a contract with FAA in Summer 2011 to supply the displays.
