HaiVision’s Newest MAKITO™ HD H.264 Video Encoder With DVI, SXGA, and Component Inputs Now Shipping

High-Performance Compact HD H.264 Encoding Platform Delivers Low-Latency Computer Content and HD IP Video

MONTREAL and CHICAGO Jan. 18, 2010 HaiVision Network Video today announced that the new MAKITO™ with DVI input is now shipping. Delivering low-latency, full-frame-rate H.264 encoding of HD video (up to 1080p60) or computer graphics resolutions (SXGA up to 1280x1024 60Hz), the new MAKITO supports component analog, DVI, and XGA (RGBHV) inputs. This MAKITO model augments the MAKITO-SDI that was released in 2009 supporting high-definition 3G-SDI and HD-SDI as well as standard-definition SDI, composite, and s-video. The new MAKITO with DVI is unique in providing low-latency H.264 full-frame-rate encoding of computer signals up to 1920x1280 or 1280x1024 at 60 Hz, ideal for delivering high-resolution real-time signage over IP video systems.

“The MAKITO is a hugely successful encoder, largely because of its remarkable performance and its flexibility in meeting the demands of the latest HD performance streaming applications,” said Peter Maag, senior vice president at HaiVision Network Video. “Its small size, broad I/O support, and ability to operate as a stand-alone appliance or part of a high-density encoding system make the MAKITO a powerful solution for a wide range of markets and users.”

HaiVision’s MAKITO, MAKITO-SDI, and SD-only BARRACUDA™ are available as compact single-encoder appliances or as mini blades that can be used within a 21-slot chassis that occupies just 4 RU. With this latest MAKITO release, the product family now supports all common input types and resolutions. To address the need for different streaming resolutions and bandwidth requirements, the MAKITO incorporates HiLo Streaming™, the ability to emit both high- and low-bandwidth streams simultaneously, and Multi-Streaming, the ability to send streams with different IP encapsulation to different destinations. When integrated into the Video Furnace IP video system, the MAKITO also distributes 100-percent-secure video using AES 128-bit encryption and robust video using forward error correction technology.
